CANTON OPTIMISTIC
Hopes Placed on Visit To Hongkong
Canton, Nov. 4. It is hoped that closer economic co-operation between Canton and Hongkong will be effected following the official visit of General Huang Mo-sung, Chairman of the Kwang- tung Provincial Government, and the Mayor, Mr. Tseng Yang-fu to Hongkong this morning, although they are primarily on a social visit.
Mr. Herbert Phillips, British Con- sul-General in Shameen, left last night for Hongkong by the Tai Shan with his younger daughter, Miss Lynnet Phillips, and joined the Canton party upon its arrival there this morning.
It is hoped that in view of the prevailing cordiality between the British and Chinese authorities in South China minor diplomatic issues will be speedily and satisfactorily adjusted. On the constructive side, there is talk of an early joint ser- vice of the Canton-Kowloon Rail- way with the Canton-Hankow Rail- way, and it is significant that the Mayor is also Vice-Minister of Rail- ways in the National Government.
